Miss Blues is a carnival with a dress on. How an entertainer of this magnitude, has slipped through the cracks of fame and fortune is a sad testimony to the MTV generation, that apparently has no room on their tv screens for a heart this big. This woman is more fun than a tickling uncle. Her personality spills all over the room like the bubbles of a run-away washing machine. And she can sing! Like the primal scream of a locomotive bursting out of a mountain tunnel.
.....While blues based, [More Trouble Than Worth]...draws upon our gospel influences, rock, funk, jazz, swing, gypsy, hip-hop and classical. We think this shows versatility, innovation and creativity, while never leaving our roots. Why make albums where all the songs sound alike and are not far removed from most other recordings within the genre? Because they would sell, would be the answer from the record labels. So maybe our songs are more trouble than worth. We submit that many of you will disagree.
March 22 1997... A night of passion, a night of music, a night of fire. Joining the Dogs is the sprite-fingered guitarist Dave Beegle. His performance tantalizes and thunders; his Stratocaster surges with soul; his prescence ignites a duel with "12 Finger" Coomes; the blues leap into the atmosphere, and suddenly the underground is rocking!
The fascination this night is Blinddogs' emotion riding a river of energy. The river rages through the hearts of the recipients and is sent back stronger to the band in a crescendoing cyclone of soul and passion.
A drunk woman bellowed at us in the Zoo Bar, "If it don't sound like Muddy Waters, you ain't playin' the blues." She'd have yelled at the electric Muddy in 1951 for not sounding like the old acoustic Mississipian, Robert Johnson. The fact is we ain't from Mississippi and our blues reflects who we are and where we've been.
The bookends of this cd are traditional shuffles with chord, key and tempo changes designed to keep you guessing and jumping, typical of the variety you hear on this disc. Whether it's a slack-string slide guitar and harp-miked vocals bringing to mind the old King Biscuit Radio show, or the scream of a Stratocaster through a stack of Marshal amps, the groove is deep and the feel is passionate and blue - very, very blue.
